Frequently Asked Questions and Answers:
Q: What exactly is Project 2025?
A: It's quickly ballooned into a huge, country wide project where junior colleges, major universities and trade schools send us goodies and information about their campus.
Q: How did it get started?
A: My mom's cousin, Britt Jones, is the alumni director at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas and shortly after their homecoming weekend, I asked her if she had any extra pencils or stickers she'd be willing to share with my class? She happily and quickly mailed a package full of HSU goodies and my kids curiosity of where it all came from and what it was was ignited.
Q: Why are you doing this project if you love your Alma Mater, Baylor University, and your new Grad School, Kansas State, so much?
A: Baylor was a fit for me, but it might not be a fit for everyone else. While my kids absolutely love hearing all about the green and gold and the Bears, I want them to realize what else is out there. My students are learning not only a bit of geography during this project, but learning that all these schools they've heard of before actually have a campus, a mascot and programs to be excited about.
Q: Besides getting the cool, free college swag, what are the the students learning from all this?
A: There's a TEKS anywhere you look for it. From finding the difference between how far one college is from us than another; letter writing and how to read a package label; finding capitals and learning the difference between cities and towns; calculating the total number of miles traveled if they drove from one campus to another to another...are just a few. We've also started journals to find at least 14 facts about each campus to have a memento for the end of the school year.
